“Yellow Box Brewery originated in a small yellow shed in the backyard of my flat in Central Christchurch. It was the late 80’s and in those days there was little choice as to what type of beer you could drink.
I started out with very basic equipment and little knowledge of what it took to brew good beer, but with research and much experimentation using the limited ingredients available at the time, I soon found that I was able to produce tastier and more interesting beers than I could buy at the local liquor store.”
“Back then I had the first spark of a dream to brew beer commercially, but after moving out of the flat I found I didn’t have room, or time, to do much brewing and my life moved on to other interests. It wasn’t until 2008 that I rediscovered the art of brewing, and with the huge amount of information which had become available – both in print and online – and the burgeoning craft beer market really gaining impetus, my passion was rekindled.”
The last few years have seen an explosion in craft beer sales and the whole perception of being a beer drinker has changed. When once you only ever drank one brand of beer, these days everybody is hungering for something new, something different, in the beer they drink. There are limitless possibilities to the styles, flavours and aromas so the future for the discerning beer drinker is looking very good!
Puzzles and running – 2 activities we have always enjoyed, and that have grown in popularity in these strange days of Lockdown. We thought it would be a great idea to put together a brew to bring them together with our other favourite activity – drinking great beer! It is all about balance isn’t it?
Double Dry Hopped with Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic and Idaho 7. We think it’s not too bad for a first up effort! Big thanks to Sam at Derelict for his help in putting this together. A very limited release but with hopefully more to follow!
The 2nd in our Lockdown influenced range of beers. This time it was in the final conditioning stage when the Covid19 Delta variant crashed the party! Barely 5 days before it was going to be kegged the country was plunged into Level 4 lockdown. The extra couple of weeks in the conditioning tank should ensure this beer is smooth and very easy to drink!
The Haze Runner series is our experimental platform for trying out new hops. This time we’ve thrown in copious amounts of Zythos (a blend of some of the biggest US hops giving fruit salad flavours of ripe pineapple and stone fruit), and we’ve also chucked in local heavyweight Rakau and the noble Pacifica for good measure. Enjoy!!!
An all New Zealand hop blend gives a hint of watermelon in this juicy, easy drinking unfiltered Pale Ale.
Lightly hopped with a delicious malty profile, this easy drinking Red Ale is best served on a handpull.
A light summery pilsner, dry hopped with Motueka for a lime kick then zested up with Yuzu juice to give it a huge citrus burst!
Brewed for our 2020 Oktoberfest celebrations. Pale golden colour – light and refreshing on the palate.
