Yellow Box Brewing

Yellow Box Brewing

In the beginning, I brewed some beer – and it was good. And the people said “Mmmmm, that is pretty good! Let there be more!”

The name Yellow Box pays homage to the old yellow shed where the brewing journey began. The yellow shed has long since gone but the journey continues. Now based in Rangiora in North Canterbury, Yellow Box focuses on batch brewing quality ales for your enjoyment.

We use only fresh local ingredients in our beer – Canterbury malts, Nelson hops, and pure Canterbury water, with the occasional addition of select hops from the Pacific North-West.

We do not filter or pasteurise our beer so it reaches you with as much flavour and aroma as possible!

Dave's Passion For Beer

Introducing Dave Wilmott

“Yellow Box Brewery originated in a small yellow shed in the backyard of my flat in Central Christchurch. It was the late 80’s and in those days there was little choice as to what type of beer you could drink.

I started out with very basic equipment and little knowledge of what it took to brew good beer, but with research and much experimentation using the limited ingredients available at the time, I soon found that I was able to produce tastier and more interesting beers than I could buy at the local liquor store.”

Dave's Dream

“Back then I had the first spark of a dream to brew beer commercially, but after moving out of the flat I found I didn’t have room, or time, to do much brewing and my life moved on to other interests. It wasn’t until 2008 that I rediscovered the art of brewing, and with the huge amount of information which had become available – both in print and online – and the burgeoning craft beer market really gaining impetus, my passion was rekindled.”

The Craft Beer Market

The last few years have seen an explosion in craft beer sales and the whole perception of being a beer drinker has changed. When once you only ever drank one brand of beer, these days everybody is hungering for something new, something different, in the beer they drink. There are limitless possibilities to the styles, flavours and aromas so the future for the discerning beer drinker is looking very good!

Yellow Box Brews

Citronomy

Pale Ale - American

6.2% ABV

Full bodied with citrus notes. Creamy head with refreshing finish.

Lazy Hazy Crazy Days 2021

Pale Ale - New England / Hazy

5.8% ABV

Revived and revitalised after a 2 year hiatus, we decided that with a name like this, our signature beer could no longer be just a New Zealand inspired pale ale! We’ve added oats and wheat, tinkered with the rest of the malts, added bucketloads of Mosaic hops to juice up the already juicy Nelson Sauvin/Kohatu combo, and fermented with London Fog to give you a refreshingly juicy but not so crazy hazy beer to enjoy this Summer.

Lazy Hazy Crazy Days

NZ Pale Ale

5.4% ABV

The beer that we launched with way back in August 2015. Inspired by Nat King Cole’s song of the same name, our aim was to conjure up visions of those long summer days at the beach. A popular pale ale in its time, loaded up with Nelson Sauvin, Pacifica and Taiheke hops, over a light but complex base.

Li'l Wunder Pils

Pilsner - German

4.6% ABV

Classic German-style Pils light to medium bodied with subtle noble hop character and medium bitterness.

Yeti Brew
